APCICT organized a Consultative Meeting on Data-Driven Governance on 29-31 August 2018 in Bangkok, in conjunction with the Second Session of the ESCAP Committee on Information and Communications Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and the 13th Session of the APCICT Governing Council.
On 2-5 July 2018, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for ICT for Development, in cooperation with the Union Civil Service Board (UCSB) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, conducted a 4-day ICTD capacity-building workshop for senior government officials of the country. It covered two modules of the Centre’s Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders programme: “An Overview of ICTs and Sustainable Development” and “ICT Trends for Government Leaders”.
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, on its 74th Session held on 11-16 May 2018 in Bangkok, elected the following countries as members of the APCICT Governing Council for the period 2018-2021, along with the Republic of Korea, host country.
Representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and APCICT had held a dialogue meeting on 28-29 May 2018 in Incheon.
The meeting had provided an opportunity to discuss respective programmes and explore potential collaboration among the Centre, the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP, and RAS. In addition, meetings with relevant organizations in Korea was also held on 29 May to foster exchange of information and networking.
Creation of the Philippines Inter-Agency Technical Working Group for Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI)
Following the ASEAN launch of the Women ICT Frontier Initiative held in Manila in August 2017, thePhilippines, through the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), led a series of consultation meetings from October 2017 to mid-March 2018 with relevant national partners and stakeholders on how to firmly establish the Philippine-WIFI program.
APCICT, in cooperation with the Union Civil Service Board (UCSB) of Myanmar, had conducted an Academy workshop for the country’s senior government officials on 19-23 March 2018 at the Central Institute of Civil Service (Lower Myanmar). The Centre had introduced three Academy modules: ICT Trends for Government Leaders (Module 4); e-Government Applications (Module 3); and Information Security and Privacy (Module 6).
The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for ICT for Development (APCICT/ESCAP), in cooperation with Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvaidyalayam (Women’s University) launched the Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI) in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on 19 February 2018.
Twelfth session of the governing council of the Asian and Pacific training centre for information and communication technology for development (APCICT)
The 12th Session of the APCICT Governing Council was held on 7 December 2017 in Manila, Philippines. The Council reviewed the administrative and financial status of the Centre; the work undertaken by APCICT since the last Council session in October 2016; and the proposed work plan for 2018.
The members of the Governing Council include the Republic of Korea (host country), Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
An Expert Group Meeting on Data-Driven Smart Government was held on 6-7 December 2017 in Manila, Philippines.
The EGM provided a platform for experts and practitioners to discuss trends and practices on data policy and data utilization in government in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It reviewed a draft Academy Module on Data-Driven Smart Government being developed by APCICT in cooperation with the National Information Society Agency of the Republic of Korea.
APCICT strengthens the capacities of Myanmar’s government leaders on utilizing ICT for sustainable development
