This month APCICT will participate in a regional conference in Sri Lanka, conduct a training workshop for officials from the Pacific Island countries in Korea, and commence the third round of the AVA Award.
APCICT Participates in 24th CACCI Conference in Sri Lanka.
On 6 July, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), a regional institute of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, will deliver a presentation to the 24th Conference of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce (CACCI), in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Hyeun-Suk Rhee, Director of APCICT, will deliver a presentation to a Plenary Session on Investing in Human Capital and Technology for Sustainable Economic Growth. Following the presentation APCICT will conduct a Needs Assessment Survey with participants in order to document how ICT is being used to facilitate trade in the region, and note capacity shortcomings in the use of ICT-based TFMs.
Titled Facing Global and Local Challenges: The New Dynamic for Economic Development, the three-day conference will engage government officials, members of the business community and thematic experts throughout the Asia-Pacific to discuss the current challenges faced by economies in the region and identify opportunities through which countries and companies can strengthen their competitiveness.
APCICT Delivers Training Workshop on ICT Project Management to Pacific Islands Officials.
From 12 to 13 July, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), a regional institute of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, in collaboration with the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) and the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), will administer a training workshop to government officials from the Pacific Island countries in Incheon, Korea.
Participants of the workshop will be trained on Module 3, e-Government and Module 7, ICT Project Management in Theory and Practice, of APCICT’s “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” (Academy). The Academy is APCICT’s flagship programme consisting of eight standalone, yet interlinked training modules, and is designed to equip government officials with the requisite skills to leverage ICT for socio-economic development.
The officials will be in Korea for two weeks as part of the PIF Official’s e-Government Workshop. The training in July will be the third time APCICT, PIF and MOFAT have partnered to deliver an ICT training workshop to government officials from Pacific Island states.
APCICT Kicks-off Third Round of AVA Award.
This month, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), will commence the third round of the APCICT Virtual Academy (AVA) Award. AVA enrolled members who complete the AVA online training and submit a case study on local ICT capacity building will be eligible to participate in an APCICT-organized event.
The AVA participants who scores highest on the quizzes and submits a case study of sufficient quality will be awarded the AVA Award and be eligible to participate in an APCICT-organized face-to-face training event to be held in the Republic of Korea. APCICT will cover the cost of the candidate’s training fees, international travel and accommodation.
The third round of the AVA Award will end on 20 October, 2010. To date, APCICT has rewarded two AVA participants from Uzbekistan with the AVA Award.
