Kathmandu University raises awareness of ICT for development among university students in Nepal through a lecture on the role of youth in ICT for development.

On 12th June, 2013, Kathmandu University (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering) organized a lecture on “Technology and Society- Young People as Change Makers” in Dhulikhel, Kavre, Nepal. Dr. Usha Reddy, author of the first issue of the ‘Primer Series on ICT for Development’ (Primer Series), titled, ‘An Introduction to ICT for Development’, delivered the lecture, addressing the students and the faculty of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Kathmandu University. The Primer Series is APCICT’s ICT for development (ICTD) capacity building curriculum for university students.

The lecture touched on the ICT sector, ways in which a country could benefit from ICT, and the role of youth in ICTD. Concrete cases of youth participation in ICT for development were discussed such as KopoKopo, Small Farmers Rural Radio, Nahrani.com, NextDrop, Remote Patient Monitoring System, Ushahidi, and so on.
