The United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) today rolled-out a series of information and communication technology for development capacity building resources.
The Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders Programme Version 2.0
Noting the tremendous pace of ICT innovation in recent years and the impact these advances have on socio-economic development, APCICT is publishing the updated version of its flagship ICT capacity development programme, the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” (Academy Version 2.0).
Consisting of 9 training modules, the Academy is designed to equip policymakers and project managers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively use ICTs for national and regional development.
Academy 2.0 is the updated version of the original modules published in 2008, and includes the latest research and developments within the topics covered by the capacity building programme. APCICT conducted a comprehensive review of the Academy modules involving 47 officials and experts, and engaged the original authors to build on the existing programme content and thus provide state-of-the-art learning material to its stakeholders.
Module 9 on the APCICT Virtual Academy
In an effort to increase training opportunities on ICT for disaster risk management, APCICT today launched Academy Module 9 on the APCICT Virtual Academy. The APCICT Virtual Academy was launched in June 2009 with 8 modules, to facilitate and extend the reach of the Academy programme. All 9 Academy modules and accompanying materials including case studies, presentation slides and reading lists are made freely available on the APCICT Virtual Academy.
The Virtual Academy enables learners to take self-paced courses online. These courses are based on the Academy modules and incorporate virtual lectures and quick quizzes. To date, there have been over 5,000 course enrollments from 116 countries on the APCICT Virtual Academy.
ICTD Case Studies from the CIS
Working to enhance knowledge sharing within Central-Asia, APCICT today published a volume of ICTD case studies from the Commonwealth of Independent States and Russian Speaking Countries. The case studies, currently available in English with plans to translate into Russian, explore a variety of issues such as e-Health, e-Commerce, e-Governance and e-Learning. The case studies share the experiences and lessons learned of ICTD practitioners from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
