APCICT to Promote the Importance of ICT Human Capacity in Uzbekistan during Nation ICT Summit, Present on ICT for Development Partnership Initiatives at Korea Africa Ministerial Conference, and Publish a Series of New Russian-language Knowledge Products.
APCICT Launches ICT Training Programme in Uzbekistan during Week-long ICT Conference.
On 23-24 September, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), a regional institute of ESCAP, will organize a National Workshop in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to equip government officials with the necessary skills to fully leverage ICT opportunities for socio-economic development.
APCICT will launch its flagship programme, the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” (Academy), in partnership with UNDP in Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Academy of State and Social Construction, and Tashkent University of Information Technology under the direction of the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information, as part of the Information and Communications Technologies Week (InfoCom) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The annual InfoCom Week is the largest event devoted to ICT held in Uzbekistan.
The two-day workshop will be attended by over 40 senior government officials who will receive training on Russian version Academy Module 1, The Linkage between ICT Applications and Meaningful Development, and Module 2, ICT for Development Policy, Process and Governance. Since June of this year, UNDP in Uzbekistan has been using customized versions of Academy Modules 7 and 8 as part of its ‘ICT Policy’ Project to deliver a series of ICT capacity building workshops to local government officials from various provinces throughout Uzbekistan.
APCICT will also present at the National ICT Summit 2010 on 21 September. This kick-off event to InfoCom Week will be attended by over 400 delegates from government ministries and agencies, international organizations and the private sector. APCICT will deliver a presentation at the Summit’s policies and strategies session.
APCICT Promotes African – Asia-Pacific Partnership through ICT for development
On 16 September, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) will deliver a presentation at the Korea Africa Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference (KOAFEC) in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Designed to develop lasting and mutually beneficial partnerships between Africa and the Republic of Korea, KOAFEC will be attended by Ministers from over 40 Africans countries and high-level officials from regional and international development organizations.
APCICT will discuss ICT human and institutional capacity building initiatives in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, and efforts to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two regions through ICT for development. APCICT has been implementing the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders”(Academy), its flagship capacity building programme, in countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region. To date, the Academy has be rolled-out in 16 Asia-Pacific countries
Given its relevance to Africa, the Academy has been customized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and is utilized by ECA’s Information Technology Centre for Africa (ITCA) to deliver ICT training to policymakers from the content. The Academy is also currently being translated into French to widen its reach in Africa’s French-speaking countries.
APCICT Publishes Russian-language Knowledge Products
Throughout the month of September, the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) will publish a series of case studies from the Commonwealth of Independent States and Russian-speaking countries, and translate the entire APCICT Briefing Note Series into Russian.
APCICT will work with partners and ICT for development (ICTD) experts to publish around ten ICTD case studies documenting the experiences and lessons learned of ICT experts and development practitioners while implementing ICT related development projects in the Commonwealth of Independent States and Russian-speaking countries. The case studies will be available on APCICT’s online resource repository, e-Co Hub, in English and Russian.
APCICT will also work with its Academy partners to translate the entire APCICT Briefing Notes Series into Russian. Designed to inform high-level government officials of the latest ICT policy trends, the translated version of the Briefing Notes Series will create greater awareness among policymakers in Russian-speaking countries about the use of ICT for socio-economic development.
