This month, there are five Academy courses organized for policymakers in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Korea, and the Philippines.
First National Academy Workshop in Tajikistan (30 September - 2 October)
APCICT launched the Russian version of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders (Academy) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 30 September and is holding the first Russian Academy workshop until 2 October. Senior government officials and members of the the Central Asian Research and Education Network (CAREN) will participate in the training. The training workshop will focus on Modules 1 and 2 of the Academy that examine the linkages between ICT and the Millennium Development Goals, and ICT policy and governance, respectively.
First National Academy Workshop in Kyrgyzstan (5-7 October)
This first workshop being led by APCICT's Academy partner, the National Information Technology Center (NITC) of Kyrgyzstan, will be held in Bishkek on 5-7 October. ICT policymakers from 25 government ministries and agencies has been invited to participate in the workshop. The opening ceremony of the workshop will be presided over by the Head of the Prime Minister Office, Mr. Nurlan Aitmurzaev. Representatives from the UNDP Kyrgyz Office will also attend the workshop.
NITC has translated all eight modules of the Academy in Russian and will deliver modules 1 and 2 of the Academy in Russian. The two modules examine the linkages between ICT and the Millennium Development Goals, and ICT policy and governance, respectively. A resource person from Intec Company, Mongolia (an Academy partner) will also run several of the training sessions in Russian. This is part of APCICT's effort in promoting South-South cooperation.

Pacific Islands Forum Officials e-Government Workshop (12-23 October)
On 12-23 October, government officials from Pacific Island states will take part in an intensive e-government training in the Republic of Korea, organized by the Pacific Islands Forum and the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with support from APCICT. APCICT will deliver Academy sessions on e-government and ICT project management.
Regional Workshop on the Enhancement of ICT Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (13-15 October)
The Regional Workshop on the Enhancement of ICT Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities will take place in APCICT's training centre, in Incheon, Republic of Korea on 13-15 October. This workshop is jointly organized by APCICT, ESCAP’s Social Development Division and the National Information Society Agency. There will be about 40 government officials and 10 resource persons from Asia Pacific countries participating in the workshop.
The workshop examines the importance of ICT accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Based on presentations from various countries and programmes that aims to address this issue, workshop participants will put together a strategy for enhancing ICT accessibility for PWDs in developing countries. There will also be a field visit to Mugungwha Electronics Corp in Suwon, Republic of Korea where most of its employees are PWDs.
On the final day of the workshop, APCICT will conduct an ICT training needs assessment to identity unique ICT capacity building needs of PWDs.
This workshop is part of a project implemented by the Social Development Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). As the project will end in December 2009, APCICT and ESCAP are exploring ways to build on the achievements of the project. One of the discussions underway is looking at utilizing the APCICT Virtual Academy (AVA), an online distance learning platform, to reach out to PWDs and strengthen their capacity in using ICT for development.

Third National Academy Worskhop in the Philippines (22-29 October)
The Philippines Career Executive Service Board (CESB) will run another week-long 'Gabay ng Paglilingkod' training course under the Executive Leadership Programme from 22-29 October 2009 in Bohol, Philippines due to the huge demand for Academy training among senior government officials. About 50 senior government officials are expected to participate in this course.
CESB is APCICT's partner in rolling out the Academy in the Philippines. CESB has adapted the Academy curriculum to suit the needs of Filipino senior government officials, and fully integrated into its residential Executive Leadership Programme.
At this third national course, the original academy authors from the Philippines will deliver the lectures using the customized Academy programme. They include: Dr. Emmanuel C. Lallana (author of module 2 on ICT for development policy, process and governance), Maria Juanita R. Macapagal and John J. Macasio (co-authors of module 7 on ICT project management.
