The inaugural session of the Governing Council (GC) of the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT) was held on 15 and 16 June 2006 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The Council discussed the report of the first meeting of the Technical Committee and endorsed the report along with the proposed future activities.
The session was attended by the representatives of six member countries namely Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Republic of Korea and Thailand. Observer from China also participated.
The Council noted with appreciation the activities undertaken by the Centre particularly in the preparation of the site including procurement of equipment and development of strategies. The Council endorsed the proposals of the Technical Committee and advised the Centre to further develop and seek cooperation with international organizations and national governments for implementation of new initiatives.
The Council noted with deep appreciation the generous contribution towards financial and institutional support from the Government of the Republic of Korea, particularly the Ministry of Information and Communication, and Incheon City Government for hosting the facilities of the Centre.
