Recognizing the tremendous potential of Information and Communication Technologies in enhancing digital agriculture and catalyzing financial inclusion within small island developing States, APCICT/ESCAP partnered with Digital Transformation Centres (University of PNG), National Information and Communication Authority, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), and West Sepik Provincial Administration to deliver a training on “Financial Literacy and AgriTech for Papua New Guinea” on 10 and 11 June 2021. The training aims to strengthen the capacities of selected stakeholders including government officials, Micro, Small and Medium Size Enterprises (MSMEs), NGOs, trainers and lead farmers as future Trainers or “coaches” on the use of relevant ICT applications to improve agriculture productivity, financial services and marketing. It was conducted in a hybrid mode and consisted of presentations, interactive sessions and hands-on exercises for participants.
The workshop was attended by representatives from provincial administrations, district administrations, agri-based SMEs, NGOs, women and youth enterprises/associations, civil service training organizations, farmer groups and lead farmers.
