Recognizing the tremendous potential of Information and Communication Technologies in enhancing digital agriculture and catalyzing financial inclusion within small island developing States, APCICT/ESCAP partnered with Digital Transformation Centres (University of PNG), National Information and Communication Authority, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), and East Sepik Provincial Administration to deliver a training on “Financial Literacy and AgriTech for Papua New Guinea” on 4 and 5 August 2021. As part of the EU Support to Rural Entrepreneurship, Investment and Trade in Papua New Guinea (STREIT PNG) framework, the event was conducted in Wewak, East Sepik.
The training helped to strengthen the capacities of selected stakeholders including government officials, Micro, Small and Medium Size Enterprises (MSMEs), NGOs, trainers and lead farmers as future Trainers or “coaches” on the use of relevant ICT applications to improve agriculture productivity, financial services and marketing. It was conducted in a hybrid mode and consisted of presentations, interactive sessions and hands-on exercises for participants.
The workshop brought together representatives from provincial administrations, district administrations, agri-based SMEs, NGOs, women and youth enterprises/associations, civil service training organizations, farmer groups and lead farmers.
