UN-APCICT promotes ICT for sustainable development (ICTD) to institutions of higher learning in Cambodia

The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), co-organized the High Level Briefing on the Primer Series on ICTD for Youth on 23 December 2016. The briefing took place in conjunction with the national launch of Women and ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI) on 19-22 December in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The event was be attended by over 60 participants comprising of representatives from 30 universities as well as officials from Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS). It aims to expand the coverage of ICT for sustainable development in curricula of the country’s universities. The briefing introduced the role of ICT in achieving the Sustainable Developments and the importance of ICT human capacity development, including of students and youth. It showcased APCICT’s learning resources (Primer Series issues) on ICT for development that can be used by university professors and instructor in undergraduate and graduate courses.

 

The briefing introduced APCICT’s Engaged Learning initiative, a pedagogical approach that links classroom learning to community development. Through Engaged Learning, students are provided the opportunity to develop and implement ICT-based projects that benefit local communities.

 

 

 

About the Primer Series on ICTD for Youth

 

APCICT’s second flagship programme is called “Turning Today’s Youth into Tomorrow’s Leaders” (TTYL).  It aims to create future leaders who possess a sound understanding of the role of the ICT in promoting sustainable development. The programme seeks to impart key knowledge of ICT for sustainable development to students and youth.  Within the TTYL programme, APCICT introduced the Primer Series on ICTD for Youth (Primer Series) to provide learning resources on ICT for development for institutions of higher education in Asia and the Pacific. This will help expand the coverage of ICTD education in curricula of colleges and universities. More information is available at www.unapcict.org/pr.
