UN-APCICT Conducts Training to Strengthen Capacity of South East Asian Policy Makers on ICT for Social and Economic Development

UN-APCICT organizes a sub-regional Training of Trainer's Workshop for South East Asia on ICT Essentials for Government Leaders on 21-24 May 2008 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The workshop is being held in collaboration with the University of Indonesia and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

ICT Essentials for Government Leaders is the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development’s (UN-APCICT) flagship training programme with eight modules aimed to equip government officials with the knowledge and skills they need to fully utilize the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to achieve national development goals and bridge the digital divide.

This sub-regional training of trainers workshop is being held in collaboration with the University of Indonesia and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. At the opening of the workshop, a representative from the e-Govenment Directorate of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology will deliver a keynote address and share Indonesia’s experiences in ICT for development and capacity building.

This workshop is the final of three sub-regional training of trainers workshop being held. At the workshop, 30 participants from 11 South East Asian countries – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam – representing national ICT ministries and ICT training institutions will be trained on two of the eight modules:

  • ICT Project Management in Theory and Practice

  • Public-Private Partnerships in ICT for Development

The first two workshops were held on 14-19 April 2008 in Hyderabad, India and on 5-10 May in Incheon, Republic if Korea for South Asia and for Western and Central Asia, respectively. These workshops aim to solicit feedback from participants on the usefulness and relevance of the eight modules prior to their official launch on 16 June, 2008, on the occasion of APCICT’s second anniversary.
