Access to Finance of Women-Owned SMEs in Southeast Asia: An Assessment of Five Countries

Commissioned by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Women's World Banking conducted research to examine the profile of women-owned SMEs in five countries in Southeast Asia (the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia) and surveyed the landscape of their access to finance. Based on these findings, we give recommendations for government, private sector players and development agencies that will enable women's access to finance in these countries.

Myanmar e-Governance ICT Master Plan 2015: Final Report

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Myanmar) has an opportunity to leapfrog its development trajectory, and effectively manage its geographical spread and socio-economic diversity using eGovernance. To enable a robust approach and plan for e-Governance, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has been tasked with arriving at an eGovernance Master Plan for Myanmar. Towards this goal, ADB has engaged Infosys Limited (www.infosys.com) to develop the e-Governance Master Plan for Myanmar under a Technical Assistance grant. This study towards the development of the Master Plan used a combination of primary and secondary research (including study and comparison against global best practices) and engaged with various ministries, industry bodies, research institutions, bilateral and multilateral agencies, and local and international e-Governance and ICT experts to develop the Master Plan.

Myanmar Business Survey: Data Analysis and Policy Implications

This publication was jointly prepared by ESCAP and the Mekong Institute with the latter’s financial support. The business survey was developed and conducted jointly by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) with financial assistance from the Government of Japan, The Asia Foundation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the OECD, the UMFCCI and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The survey instruments were designed by ESCAP and OECD in technical consultations with The Asia Foundation, the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Hanns Seidel Foundation organized the launch event and technical seminars of the business survey in Myanmar.

With the sustained interest of the business and international community in the growth and dynamism of the ASEAN Community, there is an ever-growing and constant demand for statistical information about the region. Whereas statistics would show the distinct and diverse characteristics of the ASEAN Member States in terms of demography, education and health, ASEAN statistics also demonstrate the interconnectedness of the region in trade, foreign direct investment and tourism, among others. Every year, the ASEAN Statistical Yearbook (ASYB) provides the region's latest statistical information on these social and economic indicators. Containing longer data series to facilitate deeper analysis of interrelated issues, this annual publication provides a comprehensive account of the trends and developments in the ASEAN region, as captured in numbers through statistics.
