Disaster Risk Reduction
This module provides government officials and policymaker with an overview of disaster risk management (DRM), presents an approach for identifying information needs in DRM, and then matching the needs with ICT. The module also describes and provides examples of existing ICT applications for DRM and discusses benefits and barriers for utilizing ICT in DRM.

This compilation of case studies explores some of the sound practices in the Asia-Pacific region in applications of information, communication and space technology for effective and efficient disaster risk reduction and management.
This report provides a brief introduction to the national framework India has developed for Disaster Risk Reduction, and how ICT is being implemented within this policy. The report summarizes the different ICT resources the Government of India is utilizing to reduce disaster risk and manage disasters that do occur
The second issue of the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development’s (APCICT) ICTD Case Study Series, ICT for Disaster Risk Reduction, discusses the ways in which ICT has positively impacted the various phases of disaster management. Noting the use of ICT during and in the immediate aftermath of disasters like the Indian Ocean Tsunami, and most recently the Haiti Earthquake, the case studies examine the important role ICTs play in disaster preparedness, response and mitigation. Case Study 2 shares the lessons learned by disaster management practitioners who have deployed ICT in response to disasters in countries like Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka, and Haiti.
